Our Techniques

We use a number of highly-effective adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we use is based on our judgment and years of experience.

Chiropractic adjusting technique.

Think of an adjustment as "tuning" a piano, adjusting each string so it produces the perfect tone.

The primary adjusting techniques we use include:

Torque Release

Torque Release uses a gentle touch and light thrusting by hand or small, hand-held instrument called an Integrator. This low-force adjusting method allows the nervous system to better integrate and understand the new corrective information and to process it throughout the spinal cord and brain.

The torque release adjusting technique delivers a gentle and controlled thrust.

The hand-held instrument that delivers the energy is called an Integrator.

Imagine that your nervous system has a volume control. If the volume is too loud it causes distortion, with internal organ complaints, musculoskeletal stresses and diminished immune response. Too weak, and your body doesn't receive critical messages, showing up as sluggishness, reduced performance and poor muscle support. Torque Release looks to correct these problems by normalizing the functioning of the nerves, spinal cord and brain.
After each adjustment, the body is given time to process the change. Correction continues with your body's movements and breathing. This process teaches and empowers your body to make more corrections. Healing progresses with repeated visits.
The primary intent of Torque Release Technique is to reduce blockages and tension of the entire spinal system, to release trapped, unresolved patterns, facilitate reintegration of the nervous system allowing a greater expression of your health.

Activator Methods

We use one of the most popular "low force" chiropractic techniques in the world.

First the Evaluation
We begin by analyzing how well your spine moves. We test how well you turn and bend. While you're lying face down, we'll evaluate the length of your legs. This simple procedure can reveal significant differences in leg lengths.
This time-tested protocol tells us if subluxations exist and their location. It also helps us know when to adjust and when not to adjust.

The Activator Methods Adjusting Instrument is a handheld spring-loaded tool that delivers a consistent low-force, high-speed thrust.
Because it's many times faster than adjustments delivered by hand, the body rarely tightens to resist, making adjustments comfortable and effective. It's also helpful for adjusting elbows, wrists, knees and other joints of the body.

The Follow Up

After your adjustment, we retest to make sure changes have been produced. Testing afterwards helps us deliver high-quality care and high levels of practice member satisfaction.

Koren Specific Technique (KST)

Koren Specific Technique

In this office we offer a unique, breakthrough approach to patient care called Koren Specific Technique (KST). There is no twisting, turning, "cracking" or "popping" of joints with KST; instead, you receive gentle, specific corrections to your spine and structural system. Most adjustments or corrections are done with you standing or sitting.

Correcting subluxations
We are correcting a serious form of nerve stress caused by distortions in your spine and body structure. This stress is known as a subluxation. Subluxations can cause physical and mental/emotional malfunction. They are often associated with loss of energy, pain, weakness and disease of all types.

What causes subluxations?
Subluxations may be caused by physical, chemical or emotional stress or trauma. Our purpose in this office is to remove this stress from your body/mind complex so that you may become physically and mentally healthier.

Gentle yet powerful
KST is very gentle and yet very powerful. Patients usually notice dramatic changes from the first visit. Your body will likely hold its corrections for a much longer time with KST, so you can have deeper physical and emotional subluxations (stresses) addressed.

What does KST do?
KST permits us to quickly, easily and gently check and correct (or adjust) your body for subluxations, wherever they may arise. This includes your cranial bones, TMJ, entire spinal (vertebral) column, sacrum, coccyx, discs, hips, sternum, ribs, femur heads (upper thigh bones), shoulders, knees, feet, hands and anything else that needs correcting.

Retracing
The real power of KST is that people often experience retracing as deep, unhealthy stresses leave their bodies. This is an essential aspect of the journey toward health and wellness for it involves expressing and releasing unhealthy physical and emotional stresses. Your body has many layers. At each session we correct what your body is revealing at that time. Older injuries, older distortions, older subluxations and older symptoms (both physical and emotional) may surface at later sessions. The release of old injuries is part of the healing process. On occasion, patients have reported "cleansing" symptoms such as diarrhea, pus, mucus, fever, rash, etc. These symptoms are usually temporary. Also, not everyone experiences retracing on a physical or conscious level. Sometimes dreams increase or unusual dreams occur as a result of KST care. Sometimes an area is so weak and the distortion so extensive that a segment put in place may not stay in position and may need re-correcting.

How do we practice Koren Specific Technique?
The procedure is made up of three steps (the 3 Cs):
1. Challenge
2. Check
3. Correct
The first step, "challenge," involves gently moving a body part in various directions. Your structural system is scanned for subluxations. The second step, "check," reveals where you are subluxated. If your body part is out of its correct position and the challenge moves it (ever so slightly) further out of position, the base of your skull (your occipital bone) will slightly drop on the left. This is called the occipital drop (OD) and is a binary neurological biofeedback device. If the body part being challenged is in its proper position then there will be no occipital drop. The third step, "correct," moves the body into its correct position. If there is an OD then the area is gently corrected, usually using an adjusting instrument. We find that children especially like to be corrected this way-many feel it tickles. Infants often smile during the procedure; they like the soothing vibration.

In different postures
A major advantage of KST is that it permits you to be analyzed and adjusted in different postures: standing, sitting, lying down and/or in the position of injury or dysfunction/subluxation. This is very important because sometimes a subluxation can only be observed when you are in a certain posture. For example, if a person was in a car accident, their subluxations may only be revealed and completely corrected while they are seated.

Can discs be corrected?
One of the unique features of KST is the ability to analyze or check the body for disc conditions. Patients who have suffered for many years have found "miraculous" improvements from chronic problems with KST.

How should I feel after a KST adjustment?
Everyone is different but certain general responses have been noticed. Many people report a feeling of ease, relaxation and well-being as their structural and nerve stress (subluxations) release. Often people report a "lighter feeling," the ability to breathe more deeply and sometimes an emotional release. Eyesight may improve, with increased clarity and greater peripheral vision. This is a sign of increased blood flow to the brain. Some people may feel as if they've had a good workout, often in places they were never aware of before. This is usually temporary. Please observe your dreams and physical changes over the next few days and let us know how you are responding.

Will I get better right away?
We all want complete healing, and you and I will work together toward that goal. If you've had a health problem for many years, it may take time for your body to heal.

Thank you
We are honored to work with you, your family and your friends. Thank you for the privilege of sharing your wonderful, mysterious and powerful healing journey. We welcome your questions and are always available for you.

Diversified Technique

If you're suffering from back pain, neck pain or spinal problems, your chiropractor may use the diversified technique as part of the treatment. The diversified technique is the most commonly used chiropractic treatment; it involves the manipulation and adjustment of the spinal column. Your chiropractic doctor will use a low amplitude thrust to adjust the spine and correct any joint dysfunction, and it continues to be one of the most effective treatments for patients of all ages and health histories. Here's a close look at how the diversified technique works:
Key Characteristics of the Diversified Technique
The diversified technique is applied very quickly and usually results in a "popping" sound as the spine and joints are pushed back into alignment. It is one of the most widely used forms of manipulation in the chiropractic field, and consists solely of manual adjustments no tools or devices are used to perform the adjustment, and you will only feel the sensation of the chiropractor's hands throughout the treatment process.

The diversified technique is unique because it uses only a small thrust movement on a specific joint. This results in a clicking sound caused by the surface of the joint separating. This is a completely natural side effect, and is the result of decreased pressure inside the joint which creates a gas bubble. When this bubble bursts, the joint makes a noticeable clicking or popping sound.

Benefits of the Diversified Technique
The diversified technique is one of the most efficient and effective ways to move a joint out of place and perform a manual spinal adjustment in just one session. The treatment itself is relatively painless, but most people dislike it because they hear their joints clicking and popping throughout the treatment. Still, the diversified technique continues to be one of the simplest ways to perform spinal and joint manipulation.

There are a total of 58 "set-ups" for the correction of spinal manipulation with the diversified technique, and a total of 140 for correcting misalignment in the extremities. The diversified technique offers the benefit of adjusting the entire spine quickly and easily, and more targeted treatments can be used on the major joints such as the ankles, elbows, wrists and shoulders.

Chiropractic treatments offer a natural alternative to surgery and can effectively help manage pain and reduce the effects of an injury. Chiropractic techniques have been used for hundreds of years, and are used to free up blockages in the nervous system so that the entire body can perform at its optimal level. Chiropractors manipulate the spinal column first in most cases, because the spine is responsible for the performance of other muscles and joints in the body. Any major injuries to the spine may first be treated with surgery, and then with chiropractic treatment such as the diversified technique.

If you prefer non-surgical options for managing pain and improving well-being, chiropractic treatments are a viable option.

Drop Table Technique

A drop table has sections which can be raised about three quarters of an inch and then "drops" down with the weight of the patient and adjustment. This system takes advantage of the spine's inherent design of the joints in order to move the spinal segment in the direction that will improve the motion. The patient lies on the table, and upon a gentle but quick thrust downward by the chiropractor's hands, the portion of the spinal column positioned above the table section is accelerated downward as the table segment is quickly dropped. At the end of the drop, the body's inertia transfers force into the affected joint and the soft tissue of the body, producing the desired change in the joint or the affected fibers of the musculature. This technique allows us to keep the patient stationary during the adjustments without them feeling any discomfort from the adjustment.
